Sherry BRAINARD WHITNEY

Sherry (aka, my grandma!) is an incredible painter— one of my favorites to exist. You will find her bio along with some of her paintings below. Each piece is filled with depth, purpose, detail, and love. She is willing to sell the originals on some, otherwise, Giclée fine art prints—which provide a depth and richness to the print that is nearly unrecognizable from the original.

Feel free to inquire here.

Raised just an hour’s drive from NYC, I reaped the benefit of exposure to art culture at an early age with visits to art museums and art exhibits. My grandmother was an artist and when she could no longer paint I wanted to give her the gift of knowing her art would continue through me.

When it came to time to apply to colleges though, I was torn between a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or a BA degree in Social Science. Social Science won out because I mistakenly thought artists were born not made. After graudating from Denver University I worked in a variety of fields and didn’t return to my art interests until 1996 when my husband and I opened our portrait photography studio.

Twenty years later, upon retiring, I took the plunge to see if I had what it took to become an artist, taking weekly classes and several workshops every year. I was a few years into this journey before I confidently called myself an artist. My art reflects my interest in people, their faces and their stories. I strive to convey an emotion in the faces I paint as well as to evoke an interest from the viewer, inviting them to pause and look into and not just at the face before them.

I am a Silver Signature Member of Arizona Watercolor Association and a member of the Contemporary Water Media Association of Arizona.
